As promised here are 2 more colour sketches based on my sketches from the source material on African art. I am quite pleased with them as quick works - especially the first one which was done from start to finish on the top deck of a bus travelling into and back from Plymouth.
Not quite sure why the second figure has a collar and tie - just liked the idea of juxtaposing something fairly stylised/abstracted with an everyday detail.
As always would be interested in your comments. This and much of the work on this site is for sale. Alternatively if you would be interested in a commission just email me to discuss.

  2. Thanks for your generous suppport as always - it amazes me how people keep on visiting - I know the web has been around for ages but it is still magical to me - I paint a picture and then 2 days later someone in Vietnam is looking at it - how cool is that !!! Think I will always retain the child-like fascination with that process

  3. hey Steve, the first paintings I sold were based on African sculptures, and my Aunty has several of these African masks on her walls, so i appreciate your ideas. Its easy to get inspired by their excellent craftmanship and you have done a couple of wonderful paintings, well done.
