FIGURE WITH DRINK

FIGURE WITH DRINK (1996 ?)
watercolour, ink and wax-crayon
11cm x 10cm
I am indebted to my wife Debbie for finding this in the back of a kitchen-drawer. I think I did this way back in 1996 - I had it pinned on a board in my office at the time. Somehow it's survived and followed me around. I still rather like it. What do you reckon ?
I have finished my 3 canvases - but in fairness to the person who is parting with their hard-earned cash I am waiting until they have them - before I post pictures here.
As always - this and much of my work is for sale - just email me to discuss

  1. Very cool art here! I can't believe it has been languishing in a drawer for more than ten years! I am looking forward to seeing the three canvases!

  2. Is it me or does the picture contain a moral message? Inside every bland socialite (the man facing left) there's a drink monster (facing front) keeping the viewer away from his drink. OK, I'll take another look at the picture when I'm sober. That huge arm is very dynamic, leading the eye on a giddying sweep around to the drink, then up through that black splash background round to the head, and back down the arm again. It takes a while to see the socialite since his body is out of the loop. Once you do see it, though, you start seeing double, which goes very well with the giddiness. Interesting effect, especially after a few pints.
